John Miles

John Miles, a former Headmaster of Bishopshalt School, helped in the planning of Vyners back in 1959. It was his idea that our school should have a central theme of those who serviced our community or country.

He was a much admired ‘grand old man’ of education in Uxbridge and, on his death, John Miles bequeathed a sum of money to be used annually for awards at Bishopshalt and Vyners Schools, to reward students who had offered outstanding service to the school and community.

John Miles agreed that his name be used as one of the original four Houses at Vyners - provided that it was never shortened to Miles!
